Explore the Eichsfeld
The Eichsfeld is a fascinating cultural landscape at the centre of Germany. Charming villages, tranquil deciduous forests, pastures, orchards and rolling hills characterize the region, which is surrounded by the Harz Mountains, the Thuringian Forest and the East Hessian Highlands.
The Catholic faith is firmly anchored in the region and manifests itself in many traditions. In addition to the largest Palm Sunday procession in Europe, numerous other impressive pilgrimages attract thousands of visitors and locals every year. In addition, the Loccum-Volkenroda pilgrimage route leads through the Eichsfeld. Many crucifixes along the roadsides also bear witness to the strongly rooted faith in the region.
The Eichsfeld is particularly famous for its sausage specialities. You should definitely try these culinary delights during your visit: Feldgieker, Stracke, Weckewurst and Garwurst as well as the delicious Schmandkuchen.

Heilbad Heiligenstadt
The tranquil town of Heiligenstadt - also called the capital of the Eichsfeld region - looks back on a 1000-year history. This is still reflected today in the numerous historical buildings, traditions and customs. Famous personalities such as Theodor Storm, Heinrich Heine and Tilmann Riemenschneider have also left their mark. Our town's spa tradition dates back to 1929, and it has held the title of "Heilbad" (spa) since 1950.
Worth seeing in our idyllic little town are the many churches, chapels, Mainz Castle, the Eichsfeld Museum of Local History and the "Theodor Storm" Literature Museum.

Your holiday advantages with the guest card
As part of the visitor's tax, you will receive your guest card at the Hotel am Vitalpark when you fill out the registration form. This allows you to use the city bus free of charge on weekdays. You also get free admission to the spa concerts that take place on Sundays. There are also reductions on guided tours of the town and the night watchman in Heiligenstadt as well as in the town museums.
